Equine Psychotherapies

Psychotherapy: Psychotherapy, or talk therapy, is a way to help people with a variety of mental illnesses and emotional difficulties. Psychotherapy can help decrease or control troubling symptoms so a person can function better and can increase well-being and emotional regulation. Problems helped by psychotherapy include difficulties in coping with daily life; the impact of trauma, medical illness or loss, like the death of a loved one; and specific mental disorders, like depression or anxiety. This modality can be used with individuals, couples, and families.

EAGALA Model Psychotherapy: The Eagala Model provides a unique space for an emotionally safe, hands-on experience for participants. During the session participants will get feedback in the moment and be able to gain insight into areas of their life they would like to improve. The Model requires a licensed, credentialed Mental Health Professional and a qualified Equine Specialist who structure sessions incorporating horses to effectively address the client’s treatment plan or learning goals, helping with issues such as addiction, domestic abuse, behavioral disorders, depression, anxiety and trauma. This modality can be used with individuals, couples, and families.

Group Therapy (EAGALA and traditional psychotherapy options): Group therapy is a form of psychotherapy that involves one or more therapists working with several people at the same time. Groups will be designed to target a specific problem, such as depression, obesity, panic disorder, social anxiety, chronic pain or substance abuse. Other groups offered will focus more generally on improving social skills, helping people deal with a range of issues such as anger, shyness, loneliness and low self-esteem. Groups help people put problems in perspective and help individuals realize they are not alone. By having a group of diverse individuals with different personalities and backgrounds, it allows individuals see how other people tackle problems and make positive changes and encourage trying new ways of coping with challenges.
