Romeo
Sometimes big things come in small packages, and this would be exactly how we would describe Romeo, our little bay gelding with a huge personality! Romeo only stands about 14.2 hands, and many might consider him a pony, he might be little but he sure is mighty! Reigning Grace Ranch was blessed several years ago, by a phone call from Brett Stone, a well renowned cutting and reining trainer at Silver Spur Equine Performance Horses. Silver Spur breeds some of the finest performance horses in the world. They had a colt that was born with a serious internal umbilical infection that made it hard to diagnose. Romeo was struggling to thrive as a colt, and he appeared to stop growing. One afternoon, one of the barn managers noticed that Romeo’s belly finally exposed the infection and found its way out. After care from a veterinarian team, Romeo’s body was septic. They treated him as best as they could and hoped for the best. Romeo was sent to live in pasture near southern Arizona, to give his body a chance to heal and well……..grow. After a year on pasture, Romeo was found to have healed beautifully, but his growth would be forever stunted. We received a phone call to take Romeo into our children’s program, because although he was too little for what they planned his future for, he would be the perfect size working with children. And perfect he has been! Romeo has worked endless hours with children and volunteers at Reigning Grace Ranch. He brings laughter and smiles to all who are in his presence. A prankster by heart, not a mean bone in his body, Romeo is a willing participant for FUN and mischief! God wastes nothing I always say. I often think about the sadness of Romeo’s planned future fractured, but think about now, how great his life mission has become here, planting seeds of hope to children with unknown futures.
